5 hidden features in Project Zomboid that you might not know about

Welcome back to the site! Recently, I made a guide about some of the hidden features and things you might not know about in Project Zomboid. Since then, I’ve gotten a lot of helpful comments about other things in the game that I didn’t include, so I put together another guide to talk about some of these features.

1. Using bourbon to disinfect bandages and rags

One thing that’s often overlooked by people starting new runs is bourbon. You may already know that you can disinfect bandages and rags with a bottle of disinfectant or by boiling water.

2. Finding and using annotated maps

Annotated maps can be found on bodies out in the world. They can point you towards survivor houses that have better loot inside, and they often include secret stashes.

They can be difficult to decipher, but they’re worth keeping an eye out for.

3. Using a rain collector to get running water in a base

If you want to get running water in your base, you can build a rain collector. To build the first level of rain collector, you need level 4 carpentry. Once you’ve built it, you can place a sink directly underneath it on the floor below.

Doing this will automatically connect the two items, and when rainwater is collected, it’ll flow straight out of the sink. This can save you a lot of time that you would otherwise spend boiling rainwater to purify it.

4. Cleaning a base with bleach

If you want to keep your base clean, you can use bleach to clean up bloodstains. Just grab a bath towel or dish towel, a bottle of bleach, and right-click on any area of a floor or wall with a bloodstain.

This will scrub away the blood.

5. Using umbrellas to keep dry in the rain

Did you know that you can use umbrellas to keep you dry in the rain? Just equip them in your secondary slot and use a weapon in your other hand. This can be especially useful in winter if you’re trying to avoid getting a cold.
